Trevor has developed a high level of experience across a broad base of family law matters, including:
- Parenting cases involving issues of child abuse, family violence, disputed residence and domestic/international relocation;
- Property matters of a complicated nature;
- 'De facto', same sex and 'significant' relationship matters, and
- Child protection law.
Trevor's experience includes negotiated settlements and litigated matters in the Family Court. He has acted as counsel in many Family Court trials involving financial and parenting disputes. Trevor also has a particular interest in the interplay between criminal proceedings and family proceedings and has appeared in criminal proceedings involving allegations of family violence.
He has appeared regularly in the Family Court of Western Australia, Family Court and Federal Magistrates Court of Australia and the various State Courts of Western Australia and Tasmania.
Prior to joining Paterson and Dowding Trevor worked for one of Australia's oldest law firms. Born in Dublin, he grew up in Hobart and Sydney and completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Tasmania. To complement his legal practice, Trevor has lectured in undergraduate family law and postgraduate corporate governance at the University of Tasmania. In his spare time he enjoys road racing, endurance mountain biking and art.
