Subpoenas – Are they worth the cost?
A subpoena is a legal document which is issued by the Court following a request by one of the parties to proceedings.
The purpose of the subpoena is to compel a third party to produce documents or give evidence at a hearing or Trial. Subpoenas can be issued to individuals or entities. Commonly, subpoenas are issued to financial institutions, accountants, treating physicians and government bodies.
Requesting to have the Court issue a Subpoena can be a costly exercise and should be considered an action of last resort in many circumstances.
