Russell is a Senior Associate leading Paterson & Dowding’s Joondalup office. He works in all areas of Family Law and is experienced in children, Family Violence Restraining Orders, all types of property matters including complex company and trust structures and farming land issues, spousal maintenance and child support.

Originally from North Manchester in the UK, Russell has developed a reputation for being able to quickly build rapport and trust with his clients through no nonsense advice, resulting in cost effective outcomes.

He provides his clients with down to earth, practical and sensible advice. His zealous approach is beneficial to clients in all aspects of dispute resolution whether it be during negotiations, mediation or in court.

Russell understands commercial realities having successfully run his own chemical manufacturing company in the UK, and successfully turned around a Victorian Registered Training Organisation. He has also lectured in law and business on various advanced higher education Master’s programs.

His commercial experience in law and outside of law allows him to provide informed commercial advice when dealing with property settlements.

Russell works collaboratively with clients’ accountants and other advisers in relation to tax and various structures to ensure the best outcomes.

In 2008 Russell emigrated from the UK to Australia to be closer to his son. He spent the first 12 years in Victoria and relocated to Western Australia in 2021. Outside of work Russell can be found in the gym, on the squash court or exploring on his motor bike.
